# Goals

> Define a success metric and target value on a Journey, using engagement or conversion metrics, then track progress on the Journey report.

Use Goals to measure the impact of your Journeys against specific targets. Set a metric and threshold, then monitor real-time progress to understand what's working.

<Note>
  Goals for Journeys are currently in **Beta** and available in early access. Functionality may change before general availability.
</Note>

## What Goals track

When you set a Goal, you choose a metric (such as clicks, delivered, or conversions), decide whether to measure it as a **rate** or **count**, and set a target value. OneSignal continuously evaluates the Goal as your Journey runs.

You can configure Goals in two places within a Journey:

* **Journey Goal** — tracks a single success metric for the entire Journey, such as how many users entered, completed, or exited early.
* **Message Goal** — measures performance for an individual message step, such as CTR or clicks on a Push Notification step.

## Set and track Goals on a Journey

You define a metric and target in the Journey settings (for a Journey Goal) or on a supported message step (for a Message Goal). Once the Journey is live, progress appears at the top of the Journey report, and Message Goals appear on the message-level report for each step.

## Set a Goal against a conversion metric

Measure a message against business outcomes like purchases, sign-ups, or app sessions by setting its Message Goal to a [conversion metric](./conversion-metrics) instead of an engagement metric.

Conversion metrics are available for Message Goals on **Push**, **Email**, **SMS**, and **In-App** message steps. When you open the metric picker on a supported step, options appear in two groups:

* **Engagement**: delivery and interaction metrics for the channel, such as Delivered or Unsubscribed.
* **Conversions**: the default conversion metrics (Clicks and App Sessions, where the step's channel supports them) plus any [custom conversion metric](./conversion-metrics#set-up-custom-conversion-metrics) you have created with tracking enabled.

Conversion metrics are specific to Message Goals. Journey Goals track Journey engagement metrics such as Entered Journey, Completed, and Exited Early.

### How to measure a conversion Goal

Each conversion metric can be measured as a count or a rate:

| Metric                                           | Measure options                                                                                                      |
| ------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Clicks                                           | Click-through rate, or clicks count                                                                                  |
| App Sessions | Sessions count, or session yield (the percentage of deliveries that produced a session) |
| Custom conversion metric | Conversions count, or conversion yield (the percentage of deliveries that produced a conversion) |
| Custom conversion metric with **Value** tracking | Also supports conversion value (total attributed value) and value per delivery (average value per message delivered) |

Goal progress counts conversions with direct attribution credit for that message, following the conversion metrics [attribution model](./conversion-metrics#attribution-model) and your configured [attribution windows](./conversion-metrics#attribution-windows).

<Note>
  **Plan availability:** Clicks Goals are available on all plans. App Sessions and custom conversion metric Goals rely on the attribution model, which requires a paid plan (Growth, Professional, or Enterprise). On free plans these options appear locked in the metric picker with an upgrade prompt.

## FAQ

**Which metrics are available for Goals?**
Available metrics depend on the channel. Common options include Clicked and Delivered, and message steps on Push, Email, SMS, and In-App also support [conversion metrics](#set-a-goal-against-a-conversion-metric). The metric picker in the Goal step shows only metrics supported by the selected channel.

**Why don't I see my custom conversion metric in the Goal picker?**
Check that tracking is enabled for the metric in **Settings > Analytics > Conversion Metrics**. Custom conversion metrics also require a paid plan (Growth, Professional, or Enterprise).

**Do Goals affect message delivery or targeting?**
No. Goals are purely for measurement. They do not change how or to whom a message is delivered.
